  • Bernat Super Value medium (worsted) weight yarn (8 oz/445 yds/225g per skein):
    • 1 skein each #07407 winter white (A), #00610 royal blue (B), #00607 berry (C), #00609 kelly (D), #07421 black (E)
  • Aunt Lydia's Classic Crochet size 10 crochet cotton (350 yds per ball):
    • 1 ball #1 white (F)
  • Size G/6/4mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Size 7/1.65mm steel crochet hook (for snowflakes)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Sewing needle and matching thread
  • Stitch markers

Gauge
8 hdc = 2 inches

Special Stitches
Back post double crochet (bpdc): Yo, insert hook from back to front to back around post of st indicated, draw up lp, [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] twice.
Front post double crochet (fpdc): Yo, insert hook from front to back to front around post of st indicated, draw up lp, [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] twice.

Stocking

Cuff
Rnd 1 (RS): With A, ch 54; join with a sl st to form ring, being careful not to twist; ch 3 (counts as a dc on this and following rnds), dc in each ch; join with a sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-3. (54 dc)
Rnd 2: Ch 3, bpdc (see Special Stitches) around next dc; *fpdc (see Special Stitches) around next dc; bpdc around next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-3; change to B by drawing lp through; cut A.

Body
Rnd 1: Ch 1, 2 sc in same ch as joining; sk next dc; *2 sc in next dc; sk next dc; rep from * around; join in first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in same sc as joining; sk next sc; *2 sc in next sc; sk next sc; rep from * around; join in first sc.
Rnds 3-10: Rep rnd 2. At end of rnd 10, change to A; cut B.
Note: For sc dec, draw up lp in each of 2 sts indicated, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook.

Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, sc in next 14 sc, turn, leaving rem 11 sts unworked.
Note: Dec are used on following rows to shape heel. They are worked in next sc on working row and in next unworked sc on Heel Flap.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in next 3 sc, turn, leaving rem 11 sts unworked.

Gusset
Hold piece with RS facing you and last row worked at top; with A make slip knot on hook and join with a sc in 12th sc from right edge of row 14.
Note: Rnds 1 through 6 of Gusset are worked in continuous rnds. Do not join; mark beg of rnds.
Rnd 1: Sc in next sc; working along side of Heel Flap in ends of rows, work 12 sc evenly spaced to last row of Flap; yo and draw up lp in next row, yo and draw up lp in first st of instep; yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook; (mark st just made for Gusset); sc in next 25 sc, sc dec in next sc and first row of Heel Flap (mark st just made for Gusset); working along side of Heel Flap in ends of rows, work 12 sc evenly spaced along other side of Heel Flap; sc in next 11 sc of row 14 of Heel. (64 sc)
Rnd 2: Sc in each sc to sc before first marked Gusset st; sc dec in next sc and marked st (mark st just made); sc in next 25 sc, sc dec over next marked st and next sc (mark st just made); sc in each sc to beg marker. (62 sc)
Rnds 3-6: Rep rnd 2. At end of rnd 6; join in first sc; change to C; drop A. (54 sc)

Rnd 7: Ch 3, dc in each sc; join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3; change to A; cut C.

Rnds 12 & 13: Rep rnds 8 and 9. At end of Rnd 13, change to C; cut A.

Rnds 16-20: Rep rnd 15. Fasten off.

Toe Shaping
Fold sock flat having Heel centered in bottom of foot. Mark sts on each side. You should have 26 sts between each marker. With D make slip knot on hook and join with a sc in 13th sc from right marker on bottom of foot (mark st just made as beg of rnd).
Note: Toe is worked in continuous rnds. Do not join; mark beg of rnds.
Rnd 1: *Sc in each sc to 2nd sc before marked side sc; sc dec; sc in next sc (mark sc just made), sc dec; rep from * once; sc in each sc to beg marker. (50 sc)
Rnd 2: Sc in each sc.
Rnd 3: *Sc in each sc to 2nd sc before marked sc; sc dec; sc in next sc (mark sc just made), sc dec; rep from * once; sc in each sc to beg marker.
Rnd 4: Rep rnd 2.
Rnds 5-12: Rep rnd 3. (14 sc at end of rnd 12)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Snowlake
Make 3.
Rnd 1: With steel hook and F, ch 4; join with a sl st to form ring; ch 4 (counts as a dc and a ch-1 sp), dc in ring, ch 2; * in ring work (dc, ch 1, dc); ch 2; rep from * 4 times; join with a sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-4.
Rnd 2: Sl st in next ch-1 sp, in same sp work (sc, ch 7, sl st in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, sc) -- point made; sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 3, sl st in sc just made -- picot made; * in next ch-1 sp work (sc, ch 7, sl st in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, sc) -- point made; sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 3, sl st in sc just made -- picot made; rep from * 4 times; join in first sc.
Fasten off, leaving 12-inch end for sewing.

Snowman
Row 1 (RS): With G hook and A, ch 16; sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch, turn. (15 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc; sc in each sc to last sc; 2 sc in last sc, turn. (17 sc)
Row 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc; sc in each sc to last sc; 2 sc in last sc, turn. (19 sc)
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each sc, turn.
Row 5: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc; sc in each sc to last sc; 2 sc in last sc, turn. (21 sc)
Rows 6 & 7: Rep row 4.
Note: For sc dec, draw up lp in each of 2 sts indicated, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sl st in first 4 sc, ch 1, sc in same sc as last sl st made and in next 3 sc, turn, leaving rem 3 sc unworked.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each sc, turn.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in each sc.
Fasten off, leaving long end for sewing.

Scarf
With G hook and D, ch 46; sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch. Fasten off.

Fringe
For Fringe, cut 4 (3-inch) strands of green; use 1 strand for each knot. Fold strand in half. Draw folded end through 1 short end of scarf. Pull ends through fold and tighten knot. Tie 2 knots at each end of scarf. Trim ends even.

Hanger
Hold 1 strand of A and 1 strand of B tog; ch 26; sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Finishing
Step 1: Sew Toe.
Step 2: Fold Hanger in half. Referring to photo for placement, with desired-size lp above edge of stocking, sew ends in place on WS of stocking.
Step 3: Starch Snowflakes. Referring to photo for placement, sew Snowflakes to Stocking.
Step 4: Tie Scarf around Snowman's neck. Referring to photo for placement, sew Snowman to Stocking. Tack ends of Scarf to Stocking as desired. Sew Hat on top of Snowman.
