Bouclé Muffler Set

Long scarves are "in" right now, but there's a shorter version included to make this set more versatile.

Beginner

Size
Long muffler: 9 1/2 x 90 inches, excluding fringe
Short muffler: 9 1/2 x 60 inches, excluding fringe
Hat: Fits heads up to 23 inches

Materials

  • Bernat Soft Bouclé* worsted weight yarn: 10 oz mauve shades #22935 (MC); 5 oz white #6713 (CC)
  • Size I/9 crochet hook or size needed to obtain gague
  • Yarn marker
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge
12 sts = 4 inches; 11 rows = 4 inches
Check gauge to save time.

Pattern Notes
Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
Join rnds with a sl st unless otherwise stated. Use yarn marker to mark rnds.

Muffler
Row 1: With MC, leaving a 10-inch length at beg, ch 270 (180), sc in 2nd ch from hook, [ch 1, sk next ch, sc in next ch], rep across, turn. (269, 179 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, sc in next ch-1 sp, [ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next ch-1 sp], rep across to last sc, sc in last sc, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first sc, [ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next ch-1 sp], rep across to last 2 sc, ch 1, sk next sc, sc in last sc, turn
Row 4: Rep Row 2, leaving a 10-inch length at beg, join CC in last st, leaving a 10-inch length of MC, fasten off.
Rows 5-28: Rep Rows 3 and 2 for pattern, working [2 rows with CC, 4 rows with MC] 4 times, leaving a 10-inch length at beg and end of each color change. At the end of Row 28, fasten off.

Fringe
Matching yarn color to row color, beg on end with rem beg and ending lengths, cut 2 strands each 10 inches long. Fold 2 strands in half, insert hook from back to front through end of row, draw strands through to form a lp on hook, including rem beg or ending length, draw all strands through lp on hook. Rep fringe on opposite end of scarf, cutting 3 strands of match-ing color for each fringe.

Hat
Row 1: With MC, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st to join in beg sc. (6 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc)
Row 3: [Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc], rep around. (18 sc)
Row 4: [Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc], rep around. (24 sc)
Rows 5: [Sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc], rep around. (30 sc)
Row 6: Sc in each sc around.
Row 7: Rep Rnd 6.
Row 8: [Sc in each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc], rep around. (36 sc)
Rows 9: [Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc], rep around. (48 sc)
Row 10-12: Rep Rnd 6.
Row 13: [Sc in each of next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc], rep around. (54 sc)
Row 14: [Sc in each of next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc], rep around. (60 sc)
Row 15-23: Rep Rnd 6.
Rnd 24: Sc in each sc around, inc 1 sc in last sc, turn. (61 sc)

Brim
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in first sc, [ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next sc], rep across, turn.
Row 2 & 3: Rep Rows 2 and 3 of muffler.
Row 4: Rep Row 2 of muffler, changing to CC in last sc of row, turn.
Row 5 & 6: Rep Rows 3 and 2 of muffler, changing to MC in last st, turn.
Row 7: Rep Row 3 of muffler, fasten off.
Sew side seam of brim. Turn brim upward onto hat.
