Reversible Socks

Materials

  • Med. Aqua #43 Wildflower D.K Art. 610 by Plymouth Yarns or sport weight woven acrylic yarn:
      4 1/2 oz. for small size
      4 3/4 oz. for medium size
      5 oz. for large size
  • Optional - matching elastic
      sewing thread
  • 2 stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle
  • E crochet hook or
      size needed to
      obtain gauge

SIZES: Instructions given are for small (women’s size 4-5 shoe). Changes for medium (women's size 6-7 shoe) and large (women’s size 8-9 shoe) are in [].

GAUGE: We are not responsible for lack of materials due to project not being worked to gauge. Gauge for this pattern: 9 post sts worked in pattern = 2", 4 post st rows = 1"; 9 pattern sts = 2", 10 pattern rows = 2"; 9 sc = 2", 6 sc rows = 1".

SPECIAL STITCHES: For front post stitch (fp), yo, insert hook from front to back around post of next st (see Stitch Guide), yo, draw lp through, (yo, draw through 2 lps on hook) 2 times. Skip the top of st just worked around.

For back post stitch (bp), yo, insert hook from back to front around post of next st, yo, draw lp through, (yo, draw through 2 lps on hook) 2 times. Skip the top of st just worked around.

Instructions

SOCK (make 2)
Cuff
NOTE: Optional - hold yarn and elastic thread together for first two or three rnds to help Socks stay up.
Rnd 1: For dc foundation, ch 4, yo, insert hook in fourth ch from hook, yo, draw lp through, yo, draw through one lp on hook (next dc will be worked in this lp), (yo, draw through 2 lps on hook) 2 times (ch-3 and next dc made), *yo, insert hook in lp on last dc as indicated, yo, draw lp through, yo, draw through one lp on hook (next dc will be worked in this lp), (yo, draw through 2 lps on hook) 2 times; repeat from * 32 [36, 40] more times; for joining dc, yo, insert hook in lp on last dc, yo, draw lp through, insert hook in first ch of beginning ch-4, yo, draw through ch and one lp on hook, (yo, draw through 2 lps on hook) 2 times, sl st in top of ch-4. (36 dc made) [40 dc made, 44 dc made]
Rnd 2: Fp (see Special Stitches) around ch-3 of last rnd, bp (see Special Stitches) around next st, (fp around next st, bp around next st) around, join with sl st in top of first fp.
Rnds 3-8: Fp around first st of last rnd, bp around next st, (fp around next st, bp around next st) around, join. At end of last rnd, do not fasten off.

Leg
NOTE:
Do not join rnds unless otherwise stated. Mark first st of each rnd.
Rnd 1: Hdc in first 8 [9, 10] sts, 2 hdc in next st, *hdc in next 8 [9, 10] sts, 2 hdc in next st; repeat from * around. (40 hdc made) [44 hdc made, 48 hdc made]
Rnd 2: (Hdc in next st, sl st in next st) around.
Rnd 3: Sl st in each hdc and hdc in each sl st around. Pattern is established in rnd 3. Work in pattern until piece measures 7" or length needed to top of heel. At end of last rnd, do not fasten off.

Heel
Row 1:
Working in rows, sc in next 20 sts leaving remaining sts unworked, turn. (20 sc made)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Rows 3-16: Sc in each st across to last 3 sts, sc next 2 sts tog, sc in last st, turn. At end of last row. (6 sc)
Row 17: Working in sts across last row and in ends of rows across side of Heel, sc in first 6 sts, skip next 2 rows, sc in next row, skip next row, sc in next row, sl st in next row, turn. (8 sc)
Row 18: Skip sl st, sc in next 8 sts, skip next 2 rows, sc in next row, skip next row, sc in next row, sl st in next row, turn. (10 sc)
Rows 19-22: Skip sl st, sc in each st across, sc in next row, skip next row, sc in next row, sl st in next row, turn. At end of last row. (18 sc)
Row 23: Skip sl st, sc in each st across, sc in next row, skip last row, sl st in next unworked st on last rnd of Leg, turn. (19 sc)
Row 24: Skip sl st, sc in each st across, skip next row, sc in next 2 rows, do not turn or fasten off. (21 sc)

Foot
Rnd 1:
Working in remaining unworked sts on last rnd of Leg and in sts on last row of Heel, (sl st in next st, hdc in next st) around. (40 sts made) [44 sts made, 48 sts made]
Rnd 2: (Sl st in next st, hdc in next st) around. Pattern is established in rnd 2. Work in pattern until Sock measures 1 1/2" [1 3/4", 2"] from tip of longest toe on person's foot. At end of last rnd, do not fasten off.

Toe
NOTES:
You will be decreasing on each side of Sock. Fold last rnd so Heel is positioned at center bottom of Sock; place one marker at each side edge. Work in pattern across to first marker if necessary. This is beginning of first rnd. Do not join rnds unless otherwise stated.
Rnd 1: (Sc next 2 sts tog) 2 times, move first marker between decreases, work in pattern around to 2 sts before next marker, (sc next 2 sts tog) 2 times, move marker between decreases, work in pattern around. (36 sts made) [40 sts made, 44 sts made]
Rnds 2-7 [2-8, 2-9]: (Sc next 2 sts tog) 2 times, move marker between decreases, work in pattern around to next marker, (sc next 2 sts tog) 2 times, move marker between decreases, work in pattern around. At end of last rnd, fasten off. (12 sc)
Fold last rnd flat. Sew toe opening closed.
