Autumn Sunrise Tapestry Tote & Accessories Bag

A striking design worked in tapestry crochet creates the standout style of this attention-grabbing tote. A magnetic snap closure makes it easy to fasten and cushy rolled handles make it comfortable to carry.

Materials

  • Red Heart Super Saver medium (worsted) weight yarn (7 oz/364 yds/198g per skein): 2 skeins #360 café latte; 1 skein each #334 buff and #726 coral
  • Size H/8/5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Tapestry needle
  • Sewing needle
  • Sewing thread to match fabric
  • 1/2 yd satin to match buff
  • Magnetic clasp
  • Regular snap

Gauge
14 sc = 4 inches; 12 sc rows = 4 inches

Pattern Note
Work over 2 strands of yarn throughout unless otherwise stated.
Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.
Change colors in last stitch worked.
Each square on chart equals 1 single crochet.

Bag
Rnd 1: With cafe latte, ch 100, being careful not to twist ch, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 1, sc in each ch around, join (see Pattern Notes) in beg sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join in beg sc. Fasten off.
Rnd 3: Join buff with sc in first st, sc in each st around, join in beg sc.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in first st, changing colors to café latte, sc in each of next 49 sts, changing colors to buff, sc in next st, changing colors to café latte, sc in each st across, join in beg sc.
Rnds 5-44: Ch 1, sc in each st around, changing colors according to chart in pattern download. At end of last row, fasten off.

Handle
Make 2.
Row 1: With cafe latte, ch 8, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (7 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Rows 3-7: Rep row 2.
Rnd 8: Now working in rnds, sc in first st on row 7, sc in each st around, do not join.
Rnds 9-82: Sc in each st around.
Row 83: Now working in rows, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Rows 84-90: Rep row 2. At end of last row, fasten off.

Inside Strip
Rnd 1: Ch 96, being careful not to twist ch, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 1, sc in each ch around, join in beg sc.
Rnds 2-7: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join in beg sc. At end of last rnd, fasten off.

Finishing
Turn Inside Strip so the RS will be in and WS out.
Attach magnetic snap to center on RS on both sides of Inside Strip.

Lining
Cut fabric to fit body of Bag. Sew side seams leaving opening along top edge.
Sew Lining to WS of Inside Strip cover the back of magnetic snaps.
Center Handles on Inside Strip, leaving approximately 8 inches between each end of Handle.
Sew Handles to Inside Strip.
Insert Lining in Bag, with cafe latte and tapestry needle, sew Inside Strip to inside Bag along top edge.

Accessories Bag
Rnd 1: With cafe latte, ch 36, being careful not to twist ch, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 1, sc in each ch around, join in beg sc.
Rnds 2-23: Ch 1, sc in each st around, changing colors according to chart. At end of last row, fasten off.
Sew regular snap center to inside top edge of Accessories Bag.
