This unique hexagon motif is created with post stitches around the center and has long stitches in each corner that, when joined to other hexagons, form a secondary pattern.

  • Medium (worsted) weight yarn:
    • 18 oz/1,260 yds/540g brown
    • 12 oz/840 yds/360g each tan and beige
  • Size G/6/4mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

4 sc = 1 inch

Pattern Notes
Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.
To change colors in joining slip stitch, with new color, pull up lp in joining stitch and pull through remaining lp on hook. Fasten off old color unless otherwise stated.

Special Stitches
Long double crochet (lng dc): Yo, insert hook as indicated in instructions, pull up lp to height of working rnd, [yo, pull through 2 lps on hook] twice.

Rnd 1 (RS): With beige, ch 5, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 4 (counts as first tr), 23 tr in ring, join (see Pattern Notes) in back lp (see Stitch Guide) of 4th ch of beg ch-4, changing to brown in joining (see Pattern Notes).
Note: Fpdc on following rnd are worked around 2 sts indicated at same time.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, fpdc (see Stitch Guide) around beg ch 4 of rnd 1 and next tr (see Note above), *on working rnd, sc in back lp of each of next 2 tr, fpdc around last tr worked in and next tr, rep from * 10 times, join in beg sc, changing to tan. Drop brown, do not fasten off. (36 sts)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *sc in next fpdc, dc in unworked lps of next 2 tr on rnd 1, rep from * 11 times, join in back lp of beg sc, changing to brown. Fasten off tan.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *fpdc around next fpdc on 2nd rnd below, on working rnd, sc in back lp of each of next 3 sts, rep from * 10 times, fpdc around next fpdc on 2nd rnd below, on working row, sc in back lps of each of next 2 sts, join in back lp of beg sc.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in first sc, 3 sc in back lp of next st, *working in back lps, sc in each of next 7 sts, 3 sc in next st, rep from * 4 times, sc in each of last 6 sts, join in back lp of beg sc, changing to beige in joining. Fasten off brown.
Note: On following rnd, sk only 1 st behind each 3 long-dc group.
Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in same lp as joining and in back lp of next sc, *working over next 3-sc group on rnd 5, 3 lng dc (see Special Stitch) in same lp on rnd 4 as 3 sc made**, sc in back lps of each of next 9 sts, rep from * around, ending last rep at **, sc in back lps of each of next 7 sts, join in beg sc. Fasten off.

Assembly

Join Motifs tog in 4 rows of 8 Motifs and 3 rows of 7 Motifs according to Diagram.
To join, hold 2 Motifs with RS tog and carefully matching stitches, with tapestry needle and beige, sew tog through back lps only along 1 side, beg and ending with 2nd long dc of 3-long dc groups. Join rem Motifs in same manner, alternating rows of 8 Motifs with rows of 7 Motifs, and being sure all corner junctions are firmly joined.
