Neon Bright Winter Warmers

Bold neon colors highlight this light-hearted set worked with simple stitches and medium weight yarn. Repeating triangles and tassels complete the look.

Pattern is written for smallest size with changes for larger sizes in brackets.

Red Heart Super Saver medium (worsted) weight yarn (3 oz/160 yds/85g per skein): 2 skeins #655 lime (A)
Red Heart Classic medium (worsted) weight yarn (3 1/2 oz/190 yds/99g per skein): 1 skein each #513 parakeet (B), #254 pumpkin (C) and #584 lavender (D)
Size I/9/5.5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

Pattern Notes

Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
Join rounds with a slip stitch unless otherwise stated.

Hat

Square
Make 6.
Note: Make 1 square each with color combinations of A/B, C/D, A/D, C/A, A/C and D/A. Row 1 (RS): With color 1, ch 11, change color to color 2, ch 1, with color 2, sc in 2nd ch from hook, with color 1, sc in each of next 10 chs, turn. (11 sc)
Row 2: With color 1, ch 1, sc in each of next 9 sc, with color 2, sc in next 2 sc, turn.
Row 3: With color 2, ch 1, sc in each of next 3 sc, with color 1, sc in next 8 sc, turn.
Row 4: With color 1, ch 1, sc in each of next 7 sc, with color 2, sc in next 4 sc, turn.
Row 5: With color 2, ch 1, sc in each of next 5 sc, with color 1, sc in each of next 6 sc, turn.

Rnd 1 (RS): With WS of Squares facing, attach A in first st of any Square, ch 1, sc in same st as beg ch 1, work 9 sc across same Square, work 10 sc across side edge of each of next 5 Squares, join in beg sc. (60 sc)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st as beg ch 1, sc in each rem sc around, join in beg sc.
Rnd 3: Ch 3 (counts as first dc throughout), dc in each sc around, join in 3rd ch of beg ch 3.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st as beg ch 1, sc in each rem dc around, join in beg sc.
Rnds 5–14: Rep rnds 3 and 4.

Tassel
Cut 6 20-inch strands of each of the 4 colors. *Holding 1 strand of each color tog, fold strands in half, insert hook from front to back in sc of rnd 20, draw strands through at fold to form a lp on hook, draw cut ends through lp on hook, pull tightly to secure, rep from * 5 times.
Thread yarn needle with rem length of yarn from rnd 20, from WS, weave through sts, pull to close opening, knot to secure, fasten off.
Cut a length of A 22 inches long. Holding all strands tog, wrap the strand of A around the Tassel 3/4 inch down from top. Knot around Tassel to secure, trim Tassel ends even. Fold band of Squares upward to RS of Hat.

Scarf

Square
Make 8.
Make Squares the same as for Hat Squares, [sew 4 tog 2 x 2] twice to form 2 Squares.

Body
Row 1: With RS of first block of Squares facing, attach A with sc in corner of First Square, work 9 more sc evenly sp across Square, work 10 sc across 2nd Square, turn. (20 sc)
Row 2: Ch 3, dc in each sc across, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each dc across, turn.
Rows 4–81: Rep rows 2 and 3. At the end of row 81, leaving a length of yarn, fasten off.
Sew 2nd block of Squares to row 81 of Scarf.

End shaping
Row 1: Attach A with a sc to lower edge of first block of Squares, work 9 sc evenly sp across First Square, work 10 sc across 2nd Square, turn. (20 sc)
Row 2: Ch 3, dc in each sc across, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc dec in next 2 sts, sc in each st across to last 3 sts, sc dec in next 2 sts, sc in last st, turn. (18 sc)
Row 4: Ch 3, dc dec in next 2 sts, dc in each st across to last 3 sts, dc dec in next 2 sts, dc in last st, turn. (16 dc)
Rows 5–10: Rep rows 3 and 4.
Row 11: Ch 1, sc dec in next 2 sts, ch 1, sc dec in next 2 sts, fasten off.
Attach A with sc to lower edge of 2nd block of Squares, rep rows 1–11 on End Shaping.

Tassel
Make 2.
Cut 6 strands of each of the 4 colors each 20 inches long. Cut a 12-inch length of A and tie securely around center of bundle. Cut a 22-inch length of A, wrap around Tassel 3/4 inch down from top of Tassel, knot ends to secure, trim ends. Attach Tassel in ch 1 sp of row 11 of End Shaping.

Mitten

Make 2.
Ribbing
Row 1: With C, ch 11, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (10 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, working in back lps only, sc in each st across, fasten off, turn.
Row 3: Working in back lps only, attach B, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Row 4: Rep row 2.
Row 5: Working in back lps only, attach D, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Row 6: Rep row 2.
Row 7: Working in back lps only, attach C, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Row 8: Rep row 2.
Rows 9–20: Rep rows 3–8.
Rows 21–24: Rep rows 3–6. At the end of row 24, leaving a length of yarn, fasten off.
With WS of cuff tog and rem length of yarn, sew row 24 to opposite side of foundation ch.

Hand
Rnd 1: Attach A in side edge of Ribbing, ch 1, sc in same st as beg ch 1, sc in each Ribbing row around, join in beg sc. (24 sc)
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in each sc around, join in 3rd ch of beg ch 3.

Thread yarn needle with rem length, weave through sts of rnd 13 [15, 17], pull to close opening, knot to secure, fasten off.

Thumb Row 1: Attach A in first sk dc of rnd 6, ch 1, sc in same dc as beg ch 1, sc in each of next 7 dc, turn. (8 dc) Row 2: Ch 3, dc in each of next 7 sc, turn. Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each dc across, turn. Size small only: leaving a length of yarn, fasten off. Row 4 [sizes medium & large only]: Rep row 2. Size medium only: leaving a length of yarn, fasten off. Row 5 [size large only]: Rep row 3, leaving a length of yarn, fasten off.
Weave rem length of yarn through row 3 [4, 5] of Thumb sts, knot to secure, sew Thumb side seam.

Tassel

Make 2.
Cut 2 lengths of each of the 4 colors each 6 inches long. Tie another 6-inch length of A around the center of bundle; tie another length of A 1/2 inch down from top of Tassel. Trim ends of Tassel to 2 1/2 inches. Tie Tassel to center top of Mitten centered over rnd 5.
