  • South Maid size 10 crochet cotton: 150 yds #494 victory red
  • Size B/1/2.25mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Tapestry needle
  • Sewing needle
  • Sewing thread
  • Black antique bone beads by The Beadery:
    • 5 long
    • 12 round
  • 4 black 6mm glass beads
  • 8mm black glass bead

6 dc = 1 inch

Pattern Notes

  • Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
  • Work with 2 strands of victory red held together throughout unless otherwise stated.

Special Stitch

Add bead to ch: To pull beads through onto crochet chain, use sewing needle and sewing thread, feed thread through bead and into crochet ch lp and back through bead, pull on both ends of thread to pull crochet cotton through bead, remove sewing thread, pick up dropped lp and continue.

Necklace

Row 1: With 2 strands of victory red, ch 111, dc in 10th ch from hook (closing lp), dc in each of next 49 chs, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch (Necklace center), dc in each of next 50 chs, ch-18 leaving a length of cotton, fasten off. Pass ch-18 through a long antique bone bead, sew end of ch to first ch of ch 18, fasten off.
Row 2: Attach 2 strands of victory red with a sl st in 8th dc to the right of ch-2 sp at Necklace center, ch 3, sk next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, ch 3, sk next 2 dc, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp, sk next 2 dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 3, sk next 3 dc, sl st in next dc, fasten off.
Note: Thread antique bone beads onto cotton before beg next row, 1 round bead, 4 long beads, 11 round beads. The 5 glass beads are sewn into Necklace after completed.
Row 3: Attach 2 strands of victory red in 63rd dc of row 1, ch-1, sc in same dc as beg ch 1, ch 2, sk next dc of row 1, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, ch 5, add bead to ch (see Special Stitch), dc in each of next 3 dc, ch 4, add bead to ch, dc in each of next 2 dc, (dc, ch 5, dc) in next ch-3 sp, dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 4, add bead to ch, dc in each of next 3 dc, ch 5, add bead to ch, dc in 42nd dc of row 1, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2, sk next dc, sc in next dc, fasten off.

Row 7: Ch 1, sc in each of next 4 chs, 2 sc in each of next 2 chs, sc in each of next 3 chs, ch 3, sk sc dec, sc in each of next 3 chs, 2 sc in each of next 2 chs, sc in each of next 3 chs, ch 3, sk sc dec, sc in each of next 2 chs, 2 sc in next ch, sc in each of next 2 chs, ch 3, sk next dc, sc in each of last 3 chs, sc in next st, fasten off.

2nd side trim

Row 6: Attach 2 strands of victory red in top of first dc dec of row 5, ch 1, sc in same st as beg ch-1, [ch 10, sc dec in next 3 dc] twice, ch 7, dc in same dc as first sc of row 5, ch 4, sc in 32nd dc of row 1, turn.
Row 7: Ch 1, sc in each of next 3 chs, ch 3, sk next dc, sc in next 2 chs, 2 sc in next ch, sc in each next 2 chs, ch 3, sk next sc dec, sc in next 3 chs, 2 sc in each of next 2 chs, sc in each of next 3 chs, ch 3, sk next sc dec, sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in each of next 2 chs, sc in each of next 4 chs, join in beg sc, fasten off.

First neckline trim

Attach 2 strands victory red in 31st dc of row 1, sc in same st, sc in each of next 6 sts, [2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 5 sts] 4 times, fasten off.

2nd neckline trim

Attach 2 strands of victory red in last dc of row 1, ch 1, sc in same st as beg ch-1, sc in each of next 4 dc, [2 sc in next dc, sc in each of next 5 dc] 4 times, 2 sc in next dc, sc in each of next 2 dc, fasten off.

Finishing

Use photo as a guide for bead placement. With sewing needle and thread, sew 8mm black glass bead to center of row 3 in ch-5 sp. Sew 6mm black glass beads in ch sps at center of row 5.
