This cozy afghan is like a warm hug from a special friend.

50 x 70 inches, not including Fringe

Materials

  • Coats & Clark Red Heart TLC light (worsted) weight yarn:
    • 30 oz/1500 yds/840g #5823 medium blue
    • 30 oz/1500 yds/840g #5745 medium pink
    • 30 oz/1500 yds/840g #5861 navy
    • 30 oz/1500 yds/840g #5017 natural
  • D/3/3.25mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge
7 dc = 2 inches; 3 pattern rows = 1 1/2 inches.

Notes
First ch-3 counts as first dc.
Leave 6-inch end at beginning and end of each row to be worked into Fringe later.

Special Stitches
For cluster (cl), yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull lp through, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, [yo, insert hook in same st, yo, pull lp through, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook] 3 times, yo, pull through all 5 lps on hook.

Afghan
Row 1 (RS): With medium blue, ch 223, dc in fourth ch from hook and in each rem ch across, turn. Fasten off. (221 dc)
Row 2 (WS): Join medium pink with sc in first st, [cl (see Special Stitch) in next st, sc in next st] rep across, turn. Fasten off. (111 sc, 110 cls)
Row 3 (RS): Join medium blue with sl st in first st, ch 3, dc in each st across, do not turn. Fasten off. (221 dc)
Row 4 (RS): Join navy with sl st in first st, ch 3, dc in each st across, turn. Fasten off.
Row 5 (WS): Join natural with sc in first st, [cl in next st, sc in next st] rep across, turn. Fasten off. (111 sc, 110 cls)
Row 6 (RS): Join navy with sl st in first st, ch 3, dc in each st across, do not turn. Fasten off. (221 dc)
Row 7 (RS): Join medium blue with sl st in first st, ch 3, dc in each st across, turn.
Rows 8111: Rep rows 2-7 alternately, ending with row 3. Fasten off at end of last row.

Frinze
Working at end of first three rows, cut four strands of each color each 10 inches long. Holding all strands together, fold in half, pull fold through end of center row of 3-row group, pull all loose ends including 6-inch ends at ends of rows through fold; tighten. Trim.
Continue to work Fringe across each set of three rows across entire end of Afghan.
Fringe opposite end of Afghan in same manner.
