T-Shirt Yarn Bag

Recycle old T-shirts into a sturdy, colorful bag. Making T-shirt yarn is fun and a great way to produce a "green" project.
Size
15 inches wide x 11 inches high plus handles
Materials
- 6-7 adult-size T-shirts cut into T-shirt yarn as directed
- Sewing scissors
- N/13/10mm and Q/16mm crochet hooks

Gauge is not important for this project

Crochet Instructions
Row 1: (beginning with bag bottom) With N hook, ch 6, sc in second ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn. (5 sc)
Rows 2-27: Ch 1, sc in each ch across, turn.
Row 28: Ch 1, sc in each st across, do not turn.
Rnd 1: Working in ends of rows, sc in end of each row to corner; working in opposite side of starting ch, sc in each st across; working in ends of rows, sc in end of each row to corner, join with sl st in first sc on row 28.
Rnd 2: Sl st in each st to center sc of 5 sc across end, ch 4 (counts as dc and ch-1), dc in same st -- beginning V-st made, (skip next 2 sts, V-st in next st) around, join.
Note: Mix and match colors for rnds as desired.
Rnd 3: Sl st in ch-1 sp of first V-st, ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in same st, 3 dc in ch-1 sp of each V-st around, join.
Rnd 4: Sl st in center dc of first 3-dc group, ch 4 (counts as dc and ch-1), dc in same st, V-st in center dc of each 3-dc group around, join.
Rnds 5-13: Repeat rnds 3 and 4 ending with rnd 3.
Handle (make 2)
Holding four strands T-shirt yarn together as one, with Q hook, ch 30. Fasten off. Push ends between V-stitches on next to last round, centering one handle on each side of bag as shown in photo; tie ends in knots. Pull knots to tighten. Trim ends to about 2 inches.
