Dainty Butterfly

Colorful butterflies are the perfect accompaniment to pretty spring flowers, so for your stitching pleasure, here is a darling Dainty Butterfly that you can use in a variety of fun, creative ways. Wear it as a pretty pin to dress up your spring wardrobe. Use it to embellish an array of fashion accessories such as purses, hats, scarves, belts and more. Or turn it into a dazzling necklace by attaching a small ring or hook to the back and adding a chain. It can also add a decorative touch to your potted flowers or plants. The possibilities are virtually endless!

Materials

  • Size 10 crochet cotton: 5 yds
  • Size 5/1.90mm steel crochet hook
  • Fabric stiffener
  • Rustproof pins
  • Matching glitter
  • Craft glue

Instructions

Butterfly
Rnd 1: Ch 5, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 1, 3 sc in ring, ch 16, sl st in last sc made, [3 sc in ring, ch 11, sl st in last sc made] twice, 3 sc in ring, ch 16, sl st in last sc made, sc in ring, join with sl st in beg sc. (13 sc, 4 ch sps)

Head
Rnd 2: Ch 6, sl st in 5th ch from hook, sl st in each of next 2 sts, sl st in first ch of next ch-16, (ch 2, sl st) in each of next 15 chs, [sl st in each of next 3 sts, sl st in first ch of next ch-11, (ch 2, sl st) in each of next 10 chs] twice, sl st in each of next 3 sts, sl st in first ch of next ch-16, (ch 2, sl st) in each of next 15 chs, sl st in last st, join with sl st in joining sl st of last rnd. Fasten off.

Antennae
Ch 10, sl st in Head ch sp, sl st in same ch sp twice, ch 10. Fasten off.

Finishing
  1. Apply fabric stiffener to crocheted Butterfly according to manufacturer's instructions, pin to flat surface. Let dry, curling ends of Antennae before completely dry (see photo).
  2. Apply glue to Butterfly and sprinkle glitter over glue.
