There's plenty of room for a towel, sunscreen, a bottle of water, a good book and even a crochet project in this roomy tote accented with pretty daisy motifs.

Materials

  • Fine (sport) weight yarn: 6 oz lime green; small amount each yellow and white
  • Size H/8/5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Tapestry needle
  • Sewing needle
  • White sewing thread
  • 3/4-inch novelty button

Gauge
4 sc = 1 inch; 4 sc rows = 1 inch

Pattern Notes
Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.
Chain-3 at beginning of row or round counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated.

Special Stitch
Cross-stitch (cross-st): Sk next st, dc in next st, working behind dc just worked, dc in last sk st.

Side
Make 2.
Flower Motif
Make 3.
Rnd 1: With yellow, ch 4, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 1, 8 sc in ring, join (see Pattern Notes) in beg sc. Fasten off. (8 sc)
Rnd 2: Join white in any st, (ch 4, tr, ch 4, sl st) in same st; (sl st, ch 4, tr, ch 4, sl st) in each st around, join in joining sl st of last rnd. Fasten off. (8 petals)
Rnd 3: Join lime green with sc in first tr, ch 4, sc in next tr, ch 5, [sc in next tr, ch 4, sc in next tr, ch 5] around, join in beg sc. (4 ch-4 sps, 4 ch-5 sps)
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in first st, 3 sc in next ch sp, sc in next st, (2 sc, ch 3, 2 sc) in next ch sp, [sc in next st, 3 sc in next ch sp, sc in next st, (2 sc, ch 3, 2 sc) in next ch sp] around, join in beg sc. (9 sc on each side between corner ch sps)
Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in each st around with (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) in each corner ch sp, join in beg sc. Fasten off. (13 sc on each side between corner ch sps)

Assembly
Working through both lps of first Flower Motif and back lps of 2nd Flower Motif, sew tog side by side.
Working through both lps of 2nd Flower Motif and back lps of 3rd Flower Motif; sew 3rd Flower Motif to opposite side of 2nd Flower Motif as shown in photo.

Bottom Section
Row 1: Working across bottom edge of Flower Motifs, join lime green with sc in corner ch sp before 1 long edge, [sc in each of next 13 sts, sc in each of next 2 ch sps on each side of seam] twice, sc in each of next 13 sts, sc in next corner ch sp, turn. (45 sc)
Rows 2–4: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Rows 5–7: Ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), cross-st (see Special Stitch) across, turn.
Rows 8–12: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. At end of last row, fasten off.

Top Section
Working on opposite long edge of Flower Motifs, rep Bottom Section.

Buttonhole Tab
Row 1: With lime green, ch 7, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn. (6 sc)
Rows 2–5: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Row 6: Ch 1, sc in each of first 2 sts, ch 3, sk next 2 sts (buttonhole), sc in each of last 2 sts, turn.
Row 7: Ch 1, sc in first st, hdc in next st, (dc, ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, dc) in next ch sp, hdc in next st, sc in last st. Fasten off.

End Panel
Make 2.
With MC and black, ch 60. Fasten off.
Row 1: With lime green, ch 8, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn. (7 sc)
Rows 2–44 or number of rows needed to match height of Tote Sides: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. At end of last row, fasten off.

Bottom Panel
Work same as End Panel to match width of Tote Sides.
Sew End and Bottom Panels to Sides forming a box as shown in photo.

Edging
Working around top edge of Tote, join with sc in any seam working from left to right, reverse sc in each st and in each seam around, join in beg sc. Fasten off.
Sew first row of Buttonhole Tab to center top edge of 1 Tote Side (back).
Sew button to top edge of rem Side opposite Buttonhole Tab (front).

Handle
Make 2.
Row 1: With lime green, ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn. (5 sc)
Rows 2–117: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. At end of last row, fasten off.
Center and sew ends of 1 Handle to inside top edge of front 5 1/2 inches apart.
Rep with rem Handle on back.
